How new treatments are developed

New therapies go through several stages of clinical research before becoming available to patients. Each phase is carefully designed to answer important questions, confirm results, and ensure that new treatments are ready for broad use.
Phase I: Involves a small group of participants to confirm that a treatment is well tolerated and to learn the best way to administer it.

Phase I

Phase II: Expands to a larger group to evaluate how well the treatment works and continue monitoring comfort
and tolerability.

Phase II

Phase III: Involves an even larger group to confirm effectiveness, gather more data, and compare with current treatment options.

Phase III

Phase IV: Conducted after FDA approval to follow long-term outcomes and real-world use.

Phase IV

Each phase builds confidence in the treatment’s safety and effectiveness, helping bring proven advances in vision care to patients everywhere.
